Baja Mexico is a treasure of beautiful scenery topside and thrilling and awesome wildlife in and under the water. Each year it surprises and exceeds all expectations. Together with friendly people and quality boat operators, hotels, top notch food, and wonderful weather in prime marlin & sardine run season, give my guests an adventure they love.

Trip Report
This year I arrived early to Baja (since air travel is still unpredictable). I made a pleasant discovery of the Gallery District of Cabo. My visit happened to be during a festival, but even without the extras this area of art galleries, shops, cafes, and colorful architecture is perfect for visitors who have extra days or arrive early for dive trips.

I host two groups each year: both trips start with the sardine run action in Magdalena Bay. My second group is an extended trip including scuba diving is top rated locations in Baja at La Paz and the Cabo Pulmo Marine Park.

Magdalena Bay is always so alive with wildlife in excess of the marlins and sea lions who hunt the sardines. We never know what we will encounter while out in our boats. This year we had dolphin pod encounters and humpbacked whales close to our boat including a few breaching actions.

Pelican Feeding and photographing them underwater with pole cameras from the boat has become a fun diversion while on the way out into the open bay waters.

Our 2nd group had a great experience at Magdalena Bay with several bait balls plus whale and dolphin pods, but some rough weather came in and we were not able to dive at the sea lion colony at La Paz and do the night dive with mobula rays. My local guide partner and I quickly arranged two fun activities to slot in instead of the diving. First we drove quad bikes over the dunes and then we snowboarded down the sand dunes. Both were a hit with the guests and I may include these again on future trips.

The scuba diving at the Cabo Pulmo Marine Reserve is full of pristine reefs and fish life around old wrecks. Reef sharks, bull sharks, and grouper are often spotted. The highlight that takes ones breath away are the mega schools of jack fish. We swim mid water among them as they pulse and ripple around us. This is a top dive sight for me and its wonders bring guests back year after year.

I will again be organizing trips to Magdalena Bay for the Marlin, sea lion and sardine hunting actions (and the surprise whale encounters! ) next year followed by the Mag Bay and Diving combination “ Safari” trip.
Don’t miss out experiencing one of the best marine habitats on the planet.
